How to prepare before the insulation crew arrives

The short answer

Clear a path to the work areas, move stored items away from walls and attic access, protect anything valuable or fragile nearby, and plan for kids and pets to be out of the work area. For spray foam, plan around the re-occupancy time your crew gives you.

Prep checklist

  • Clear a path from the door to the attic hatch, basement, or crawl space entrance.
  • Move boxes and stored items at least a few feet away from walls and rim joists being insulated.
  • Empty closets that contain an attic access panel.
  • Cover or move electronics and valuables in rooms near the work.
  • Make sure the crew has driveway space for the rig and hoses.
  • Plan for pets and kids to be away from the work area.

For spray foam projects

Spray foam needs time to cure and the house needs time to air out before everyone returns. Your crew will give you a re-occupancy time for your specific product, commonly about 24 hours. They will also ventilate the area during and after the job.

What Seal Tech handles

Our crews cover floors and surfaces in the work path, mask areas that should not get foam, and clean up when the job is done. If old insulation is being removed, we handle the removal and disposal.

Seal Tech tip: Take a photo of anything you move so it goes back exactly where it was.
